Evan's Story

Evan and Lieberman Family

Evan was a vibrant, fun, humorous, kind, affectionate and talented young man. He was a typical teenage boy who loved hanging out with his friends, playing video games, competing in sports and watching comedies (the more tasteless the better). Evan also had a serious side and was a dedicated volunteer who worked with needy students at the Cottage School in Pleasantville, NY, during his years at Horace Greeley High School. He also tutored Spanish-speaking immigrants in English through the school's Casa de Lengua program.

During the summer of 2011, Evan was home from his freshman year at the University of Connecticut. He was taking general studies classes with an emphasis on business. Which he had hoped to someday be an entrepreneur. Evan was also on the Ultimate Frisbee team. He was fast on his feet and that sport played well into his strengths. He loved the camaraderie and traveling to other schools to compete.

On the morning of June 16, 2011, Evan had been on his way to work with three other Chappaqua teens to a summer construction job in Woodbury Commons. At 7:50 am, the teens were in a fatal car crash.

After a 32-day courageous struggle to survive at Westchester Medical Center, Evan lost his life on July 18, 2011.

On July 20, thousands poured out in to Temple Shaaray Tefila in Bedford to honor Evan and to share their love and support. The service gave attendees a glimpse into a valuable and promising life cut way too short.
